Shown standing with right hand extended and left hidden within the voluminous sleeve of his long robes which are belted at the waist with a long tasseled cord and incised with dragon roundels and with a vignette of rocks rising from waves in front and in back above the lotus scroll border at the hem, his head sensitively carved from soapstone of even ivory color and his scholar's hat painted black, the incised decoration picked-out in gilding, the base incised with three characters, Liu Zhaisheng
