A rare Louis XVI silver key ring (clavier) Maker's mark of Jacques Bazille, Montpellier, 1781-1789 The flat stem with shaped top, the upper part engraved with flowers and foliage and with two svivel rings, marked on stem and ring 31.3 cm. (12.1/4 in.) long 120 gr. (4 oz.)

Lot Essay

Key rings or (claviers) of this form, usually with a bent handle for wearing presumably as a chatelaine, seem to have been a speciality of Montpellier silversmiths and particularly Jacques Bazille, (see Laurent Deguara, Orfévrerie de Montpellier et du Languedoc, Montpellier, 1995, p. 111, no. 933)
