Lot Essay

The theme of archaism is represented on the present lot by their unusual shape and the glaze used. Painted lacquer ear-cups were produced in large numbers during the Han dynasty (206 B.C. - A.D. 220); while the glaze was inspired by the Southern Song dynasty Guanyao wares.
