Each side delicately painted en grisaille with a different landscape scene, including a snow scene, all within molded borders below formalized foliate sprays in famille rose enamels reserved on a yellow ground on the very slightly domed shoulder, with a foliate diaper band encircling the shallow waisted neck, the interior of the neck, the eight bracket feet and the base covered in turquoise enamel
3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) across

Lot Essay

No other waterpot of this rare shape appears to have been published. This rare, elegant shape and unusual combination of grisaille and famille rose decoration usually seen on medallion-decorated sgraffiato-ground bowls, such as lot 220 in this sale, make for a very rare piece indeed.
