With a button decorated cornice and plain frieze centred by a coat-of- arms, the mirror is divided by cluster column pilasters, the centre plate replaced

Lot Essay

With its distinctive tripartite form and bound reeded columns, this mirror recalls the furniture supplied by James Newton for the 1st Marquess of Exeter (d.1804) at Burghley House, Lincolnshire (G. Ellwood, 'James Newton', FHSJ, XXXI, 1995, figs. 4-8).
