The Grecian-scrolled sofa is 'penwork' ink-blacked in the manner of Etruscan vases, and embellished with palm and vine leaves together with a love-trophy of Cupid's weapons and a Grecian urn on a cippus-tablet. The sofa, which appears to be the pair to the present lot, was lent to an exhibition in New York in 1989 by Mrs. A. Cutaia (New York, Hyde Park Antiques, Ltd, Penwork: The Triumph of Line, 1989, no. D-5, p. 34).
