The first painted by Edward Townsend with a Chiff Chaff on Hogweed, signed and dated; the second plaque certifying that a Limited Edition of twenty five sets of British Bird Paintings on Bone China has been produced by the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company Limited, both in gilt wood frames

Lot Essay

Edward Townsend (b. 1904) is recorded as a painter at Royal Worcester beginning in 1918, and foreman of all the men painter's from 1954-1971. He is particularly noted for his fruit, sheep and bird paintings. For a further discussion of his work, see H. Sandon, Royal Worcester Porcelain (London, 1973), p. 111.
