MASTER OF THE ROCKS SCHOOL, 1740-1850
The main side is carved with a temple below towering rocks surrounded by blossoming plum trees and lingzhi fungus, above crashing waves scattered with plum blossoms. The reverse is carved with a pavilion above waves, with lingzhi growing on the shore.
2 ½ in. (6.4 cm.) high, hardstone stopper

The material favored by the Master of the Rocks School was referred to by Zhao Zhiqian in the late Qing period as "yellow steamed-chestnut" and by modern collectors as "han" jade. For a further discussion of this school see the note to lot 423.
