A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD
Circa 1750-60
With broad flattened blade (surface pitted) with wide central fuller between two narrow ones on each side of the forte, and roughly inscribed 'Andria Ferara', and struck with three crescent moon marks, the robust brass hilt comprising guard of characteristic form of vertical fluted bars framing panels pierced with T-shaped and circular holes, fore-guards and short rear quillon, bun-shaped moulded pommel (replaced), wooden grip bound with twisted silver wire, and original leather liner (rubbed) faced with red cloth
