Lot Essay

Although not specifically mentioned in an inventory, it is possible that these benches came to the Hospital in the 1740's during the radical remodelling of the almshouses by Cholmley Turner, great-nephew of Sir William Turner. However, the nailed construction of the benches might well indicate a 19th century origin as more likely.
