Lot Essay

The form of these wall appliques relates to the set delivered by Thomire-Duterne et Cie in 1809 for the 'Chambre à Coucher' of the Emperor Napoleon and 'Le Grand Salon' of his Impeéatrice at the Palace of Fontainebleau, (see: J.-P. Samoyault, Catalogue des Collections de Mobilier, Musée National du Chateau de Fontainebleau, Paris, 1989, vol. 1, pp. 112 and 113). A further set was delivered to the Grand Trianon in 1813 for the 'Cabinet Particular de l'Empereur' (see: D. Ladoux-Lebard, l'Inventaire du Grand Trianon', Paris, 1977, p. 150)
