Each shown seated wearing loose robes, holding various objects including fans, scrolls, a flaming pearl, an arrow, a yinyang medallion, a halberd, a flywhisk, a basket of lingzhi fungus and a staff, each seated on a separate grey-green jade base with ruyi- head supports

Lot Essay

A set of small white jade animals of the zodiac dated to the 19th century is illustrated by Leidy, Siu and Watt, 'Chinese Decorative Arts', The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin, Summer 1997, p. 33, and another set dated to the Qianlong period, once in the collection of Y.K. Ma, Hong Kong, and now in the collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, is illustrated by R. Kleiner, Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996.
