Including two open armchairs, each with channelled frame and horizontal turned splat with reeded and gadrooned centre, above a caned seat with salmon-coloured velvet squab-cushion and on sabre legs, the armchairs formerly with paterae to the sides, re-decorated, one chair incised A (10)

Lot Essay

These chairs have Etruscan-scrolled feet and fluted and volute-scrolled backs that relate to an 1804 'parlour chair' pattern issued in Thomas Sheraton's Encyclopaedia, 1804-7.
