A SET OF TEN TABLETKAS RUSSIAN, CIRCA 1700 All panels double-sided, divided into four registers (except for the back of February, see illustration above), beginning from the upper left corner of the front depicting the events and saints commemorated on each day according to the New Calendar, the figures rendered with classical proportions, their faces painted in great detail, the garments of the Church Fathers opulently adorned with gold patterns, the narrative episodes portrayed against elaborate architecture or landscapes, on gold background, red inscriptions in majuscule identifying the representations, the spandrels of the terracotta borders decorated with foliage, the months written within similar frames in Old Slavonic, later applied labels with the months in modern Russian, the tabletkas for January and March missing 8 3/8 x 7½ in. (21.3 x 18.5 cm) (10)
