Lot Essay

A terrapin tureen and cover, dating to 1890, is illustrated in Charles H. Carpenter, Gorham Silver, 1997, p. 105, no. 127. Another 1890 silver-gilt example with a matching platter is currently on view at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (Anonymous Lender, TR11809/2A-C).
