The cover with a large predominantly red enamelled lotus blossom and scrolling foliage on a turquoise ground, the sides of the cover and base similarly decorated with a band of florets and leafy scrolls, some pitting, infills and surface wear

Lot Essay

An almost identical box with Jingtai reign mark is in the Museum of East Asian Art, Bath, and illustrated in the Inaugural Exhibition Catalogue, vol.II, Chinese Metalwares and Decorative Arts, 1993, no.308, p.115.
