Of Sherratt-type, painted in colours and enriched with purple lustre, the chained Cimon before two hollow castle keeps, Pero, his daughter, standing at the right nourishing him, on a mound and rectangular table base applied with flowers and moulded with berried swags, named on two oval panels, above ridged bracket feet

See Halfpenny, p. 267; and Oliver, p. 48, fig. 57. The Grecian and Daughter or Roman Charity is based on the legend of Cimon and Pera. An abridged version was a great favorite of itinerant 18th century melodramatists. Here the staving prisoner Cimon is saved by the generosity of his daughter Pera.
