A STAFFORDSHIRE PEARLWARE JUG
CIRCA 1780, possibly Leeds
Printed in black below the spout and enriched in colours with a satirical cartoon: a bewigged man with a horn in place of a wooden leg, seated before a music stand with a boar tucked under his arm, pulling on the animal's tail, inscribed SIGNOR GRUNTINELLI Playing on a new Instrument (Call'd a Swinetta.), printed also in black on each side with three Prince of Wales feathers enriched in green and pink and enclosed within finely painted scrolls and pendant flowering vines suspended from a vermiculé band at the rim, brown line rim
