A Swept-Hilt Rapier
Second quarter of the 17th Century, probably Flemish
With double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with inscribed central fuller on each face of the forte, the ricasso struck on each face with a mark and 'Caino', iron hilt comprising asymmetrical guard with vertically recurved quillons, arms, triple side-rings on each side incorporating convex double shells engraved with radiating lines, slender knuckle-guard linked by curved bars to the outer side-rings, globular faceted pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip (some pitting throughout)
