Lot Essay
Lowo Khenchen Sonam Lhundrub, or just Sonam Lhundrub and also known as Legp'a Jungne, lived from 1456-1532. He was the son of the Second Mustang Dharma King - Agon Sangpo. He traveled to Central Tibet several times to study at the great Sakya and Ngor monasteries.
Standing to his right is Jamyang Kunga Sonam Dragpa (1485-1533), the 23rd Sakya Trizin, and to his left is Ngagchang Chenpo Kunga Rinchen (1517-1584), the 24th Sakya Trizin. Sonam Lhundrub was a teacher to both of these important religious and political figures.
This is the only known painting depicting his life story in one composition, starting with birth at upper right and proceeding clockwise to his death and cremation at upper left. This painting was commissioned by Palden Lodro, on whom there is currently no further information.
