A TURQUOISE AND RED-GLAZED ARABIC-INSCRIBED DISH
MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
With flared, rounded sides rising from a tapered ring foot, the interior decorated with a central roundel enclosing excerpts from the Koran, surrounded by eight smaller roundels containing names of the disciples of Mohammed, and further verses from the Koran written in red, all below petal and leaf bands in the well, the exterior painted in pale greyish underglaze blue with the character wu (five), with kiln grit adhering to the foot and unglazed base
14½ in. (36.8 cm.) diam.
