A Very Rare 50-Bore French Two-Shot Breech-Loading Flintlock Holster Pistol
Third quarter of the 17th Century
With detachable two-stage tapering barrel, the engraved breech section octagonal then polygonal, octagonal revolving chambers engraved with foliage and with brass pan, enclosed action (cover to steel-spring missing) engraved 'Magasin Royal' and with further foliage, walnut butt (chipped, minor cracks) incorporating the engraved silver back-sight, and finely inlaid with silver wire scrollwork and pellets (some losses) and engraved silver flower-heads and leaves, iron trigger-guard and side-plate, the latter engraved with foliage and housing the spring catch for releasing the chambers, and foliate engraved iron pommel with single spur on the upper side (iron parts pitted, engraving worn throughout)
