A VERY RARE BARRÉ ENGRAVED 12-BORE TOPLEVER LIVE PIGEON HAMMERGUN

With 32 in. (81.3 cm.) blacked signed nitro chopperlump Whitworth steel barrels with raised matt rib, 2 ¾ in. (70 mm) chambers, bored approx. full and full choke, signed treble grip action (re-jointed) with side-clipped fences and strikers retaining some original blued finish, and rebounding locks, the action, toplever, locks, hammers, trigger-guard and fore-end iron including button all finely chiselled in low relief with foliate scrollwork inhabited by monsters and Classical masks against a blackened ground, articulated front trigger, well figured 14 ¼ in. stock with chequered butt, the underside of the butt with pierced gold-inlaid escutcheon bearing the Spanish Royal Arms, weight 7 lbs. 10 oz.

Provenance
The makers have kindly confirmed that this hammergun was completed in April 1909 for King Alfonso XIII of Spain, and that the records make specific mention of Barré as the engraver.
