with green velvet, brown and black glass eyes, white plastic tusks, red ribbon and button in ear, red cloth tag with handwritten ink No.20/14084 ? --4in. (10cm.) long, late 1920s, early 1930s (ribbon perished) and a 1950s Steiff tiger glove puppet (2)

This elephant belonged to Mr. George D. Prince, representative for Greiner & Co., the Steiff agent in London. After the Nazis rise to power he joined the British firm of Roberts Bros. of Gloucester, manufacturers of toys, games and children furniture.

The elephant pin-cushion is a key part of Steiffs' history, the first item that Margarete Steiff ever made. This type of small elephant has reappeared over the years for various special occasions and anniversaries. It is possible that this example was made for selective people in the Steiff company and not actually sold.
