This elephant belonged to Mr. George D. Prince, representative for Greiner & Co., the Steiff agent in London. After the Nazis rise to power he joined the British firm of Roberts Bros. of Gloucester, manufacturers of toys, games and children furniture.

The elephant pin-cushion is a key part of Steiffs' history, the first item that Margarete Steiff ever made. This type of small elephant has reappeared over the years for various special occasions and anniversaries. It is possible that this example was made for selective people in the Steiff company and not actually sold.
