A Victorian mahogany quarter-chiming longcase clock, mid 19th century
The hood with brass flowerhead caps to the swan neck, outset columns and pie-crust door frame, the cross-banded trunk door flanked by canted angles, the 13 in. wide brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to Roman and Arabic chapter ring with arcading and half hour markers, the foliate scroll engraved centre with applied subsidiary seconds ring and signed John Cotsworth London, brass hands, the arch with painted rolling moon, the substantial eight day movement with four back-screwed pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell, with quarter chimes on eight nested bells -- 87 in. (221 cm.) high
