The mounts with maker's mark of Walter Thornhill, London, 1883
The rectangular top inlaid with a monogram 'ARP' above a rectangular silk and metal-thread gros and petit-point needlework panel depicting a maiden in a landscape within a foliate border with fan shapes to the angles and enclosing a fitted interior with numerous pigeon-holes and tray and a black leather-lined writing-surface, the rectangular uprights joined by a turned stretcher and terminating in splayed legs and brass caps and porcelain castors, the lockplate inscribed 'O & S L' and the silver mounts with hall marks, previously with a further stretcher
