The padded wing back above a squab cushion and outscrolled arms covered in floral tapestry on a cream ground, on cabriole legs headed by foliate-carved brackets, floral cabochon and husks, with acanthus-wrapped scrolled feet, the underside inscribed twice in pencil 'OM 6234' and in white paint '91/6234', restorations, the front and back-right legs 18th Century

Lot Essay

The flowered and acanthus-enriched chair leg of this pattern features on seat furniture bearing the 1740s label of Giles Grendey (d. 1780), illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, Leeds 1996, nos. 437 and 438, p. 243.
