A WELL-CARVED JADE RING, HUAN
LATE EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 4TH-3RD CENTURY BC
Each slightly convex side is finely carved with tiny whorl-shaped spirals within incised borders at the plain inner and outer rims. The finely polished, semi-translucent stone is now of brownish-white color with areas of opaque buff-colored alteration and some dark brown alteration at the outer rim.

A similar huan of slightly smaller size (7.1 cm.) in the Grenville L. Winthrop Collection is illustrated by M. Loehr in Ancient Chinese Jades, Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, 1975, p. 472, no. 400, which is dated late Eastern Zhou.
