Lot Essay

The relatively short top section of this cupboard in comparsion with the taller base section is a characteristic feature of many Welsh cupboards and bureau bookcases. The decoratively shaped lower frieze has a profile which provides another key signature to its Welsh origin. Such cupboards where often used in conjunction with dressers with open shelves and whose glazing provided a display space for crockery and china.
