A WHITE JADE 'CHILONG' PLAQUE
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) OR EARLIER
The plaque is of bi form, pierced through the centre and flanked on either side with two openwork writhing chilong. Each sinuous chilong is detailed with bifurcated tails and incised to their flanks and shoulders with cross-hatching and scrolls. The flat underside is decorated with incised scrolls. The stone is of a white tone with opaque buff markings at the edges.
