Lot Essay

Thomas Messenger, Birmingham manufacturer of 'Chandeliers, Tripods and Lamps of every description in bronze and or-molu', opened a London branch in 1826. A Colza Oil lamp with of this identical model is illustrated and discussed in 'Country House Lighting', Exhibition Catalogue, Temple Newsam, 992, p.138, fig.92
