Lot Essay

The stamp relates to Christies sale of the contents of Marlborough House in 1959. At that time Her Majesty the Queen gave Marlborough House for use by the Commonwealth secretariat and some of Queen Mary's former property was sold. Other items were noted as having been inherited from King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra who lived for many years at Marlborough House as Prince and Princess of Wales.
