Lot Essay

Among the many properties owned by Angus McBean were three houses built by Thomas Cubitt (1788-1855) on Gibson Square, Islington. The first was purchased in 1953 with the adjoining properties being acquired over the next few years and later being transformed into one large house.

This carpet designed by Angus McBean decorated the drawing-room at Gibson Square between 1953-1963. It is shown illustrated on page 245.
