A YELLOW JADE 'ABSTINENCE' PLAQUE
19TH CENTURY
The pendant is carved in the form of a finger citron with leafy, flowering branches, with a round cartouche at the center enclosing two characters, zhai jie, 'abstinence'. The reverse is similarly inscribed in Manchu script. The stone is of an even pale yellow tone.
