The Month of August

We are grateful to Drs Luuk Pijl for confirming the attribution on the basis of a photograph. Drs Pijl notes this painting is a typical work by Grimmer from the 1590s and further suggests that it probably was part of a series, like the set of four, of identical size, at Upton House, Banbury (R. de Bertier de Sauvigny, Jacob et Abel Grimmer, Brussels 1991, p. 319, pl. 62, cat. XXVIII, wrongly illustrated).
