Lot Essay

Cooper studied under Ben Marshall and went on to become an extremely successful sporting artist whose patrons included Queen Victoria, the Prince Regent and the Duke of Portland. He painted a number of pictures of the Old Surrey and Burstow Hunt, including Daniel Haigh, Master of The Old Surrey and Burstow on his horse Kitten, illustrated, S. Mitchell, The Dictionary of British Equestrian Artists, 1985, p. 166.
