Lot Essay

The son and pupil of Adam Willaerts (1577-1664), Abraham later studied with Simon Vouet in Paris, before serving for some years in the service of Maurice of Nassau. Later in his career he travelled in Italy, before taking part in a Dutch expedition to Angola and then accompanying John Maurice, Prince of Nassau-Seigen, on his expedition to Brazil between 1637 and 1644.
