Lot Essay

Adam Buck was a major exponent of the Greek neo-classical revival during the latter part of the eighteenth century. This watercolour exemplifies his full-length portraits that are usually set in landscpe backgrounds and whose sculptural silhouettes reflect his fascination with Greek vase painting.
