Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Wolfgang Schulz, and to Mrs. Marijke de Kinkelder of the R.K.D., for independently confirming the attribution to Van der Neer on the basis of photographs. Dr. Schulz, who notes that the painting seems on the basis of a photograph to be 'an authentic work by Aert van der Neer with some weaknesses in the right half', will include the picture in his forthcoming monograph and catalogue raisonné of the artist's works, to be published by Doornspijk this year, as no. 958.
