Lot Essay

This miniature is copied after a portrait miniature of Captain John Cummings by George Engleheart, sold Christie's, London, 27 November 1979, lot 66, and 8 June 1987, lot 354. G. C. Williamson/H. L. D Engleheart (George Engleheart 1750-1829 Miniature Painter to George III, London, 1902, Appendix, p. 92) record that Capt. Cummings sat to George Engleheart in 1805.
