The prototype, signed and dated 1634, on panel, 58.3 x 47.4 cm, has been in the Gemldegalerie Staatliche Museen, Berlin since 1830 (J. Bruyn et. al., A Corpus of Rembrandt Paintings, 1986, II, pp.519/24, no.A96, ill.).
