The Penitent Magdalene

According to the 2002 sale catalogue, Sir Denis Mahon identified the present picture as by Agostino Carracci, an attribution which was confirmed by Daniele Benati based on firsthand examination. Another version of the composition, virtually identical in scale, was at that time in the collection of the Marchese Durazzo Pallavicini, Genoa.
