Agostino Ciampelli was a significant artist during the Counter Reformation in late 16th century Italy. A pupil of Santi di Tito, Ciampelli worked in Pescia and Florence though spent most of his career in Rome, undertaking important commissions from Pope Clement VIII. Examples of his work can be seen in major churches in the Italian capital, including the Chiesa del Gesù, Santa Bibiana and Santa Maria in Trastevere.
