PRICED in a contemporary hand. According to the preface of the catalogue the library was founded by H.F. d'Aguesseau, Chancellor of France, who had acquired the collection of the poet Florent Chrestien (1541-1596). His library passed to his second son, Jean Baptiste Paulin d'Aguesseau, Marquis de Mannoevre who enlarged it. Father and son employing 15 versions of their coat-of-arms on their bindings. The sale included 5583 lots and the library was sold on 57 days between 14 February and 2 Mai. Guigard II, p. 173; Blogie II, col. 16; North 318.
