Structured field with golden remnants

A. Sadali is regarded as the father of abstract painting in Indonesia. Often rendered his composition in brilliant colours and with a highly textural surface, Sadali used geometric forms and calligraphic shapes to express religious messages. Well known for his application of gold-leaf onto the canvas surface, a practice which is widely followed by other modern Indonesian artists of his time, the glorious sheen of the colour gave the already textured surface another element to play with and very often, enhances the artist's adoration of God. One cannot emphasize enough on the religious undertone of his works. Once asked of his objective of being an artist and Sadali replied "To seek God's blessing. Maybe you laugh to hear me say that. But this is very serious for me. Truly, I do not know what the goal of living would be other than that."
