Lot Essay

This composition by Turchi is known in several versions, including one held in the Museo di Castelvecchio, Verona, and another in the Musei Civici in Padua. The inclusion of the angels in the upper part of the composition is not, however, repeated in all versions, see D. Scaglietti Kelescian (ed.), Alessandro Turchi detto l'Orbetto 1578-1649, exh. cat., Museo di Castelvecchio, Verona, 19 September-19 December 1999, pp. 236-237.
