Alexander Coosemans, is one of the few known pupils of Jan Davidsz. de Heem, to whom he was apprenticed in 1641 and whose influence is evident in Coosemans' oeuvre. He was accepted as a Master in the Antwerp Guild in 1645, later travelling to Italy c. 1649, which further influenced his style.
