Lot Essay

If the last digit of the date is indeed to be read as a "9", the present picture would appear to be the last dated extant work by the artist.
As pointed out by W. Stechow, Dutch Landscape Painting of the Seventeenth Century, 1966, p.68, Keirincxs late works are characterised by the transparent pattern of branches and leaves against the sky and the muted colour scheme of the foliage.
