Stanley, hommage de respect et d'admiration, Frère Alexis-Maria Gochet ... Bruxelles, 22 Avril 1890.'

(Occasional soiling and staining.) Original pictorial brown cloth, marbled edges (head of spine stained). Provenance: Three-page manuscript translation into English of Adelaide Marchi's preface, describing her meeting with Stanley in Florence in April, 1893, loosely inserted. FIRST EDITION IN ITALIAN; together with a Dutch translation of the same work, Mijne zwarte Metgezellen en hunne zonderlinge Verhalen (Haarlem, 1896), with translator's presentation inscription to Stanley; and 3 other translations, Gjennem det Mörke Fastland (Christiana, 1878, 2 vols.), Congofloden og Grundlaeggelsen af den Frie Congostat (Copenhagen, 1885), both presentation copies to Stanley by the translators, and Nell'Africa tenebrosa (Milan, 1890, 2 vols.), all in original cloth.
