Newton studied at Clare College, Cambridge, followed by Calderon's School of Animal Painting, the Slade School of Fine Art and the London School of Art. He held his first one-man show at the Leicester Galleries in 1931. Newton is best known for his topographical scenes, and his work is represented in the collection of Tate Britain.
